Self esteem is a positive or negative view of yourself. It is an overall view of one’s worth or value. People are motivated to have high self esteem, and having it indicates positive self-regard, not egotism, which, like low self esteem, is another unbalanced view of the self.
It is important to understand self esteem and self-worth as a unique part of who you are. Your personal value is likely to be influenced by external factors, but for the purposes of this evaluation we are looking at how you value yourself as a person.
